Less Fear, More Connection: The Calm Approach to Camel Training

CAMEL TRAINING TARA LEA

You probably don’t know this—because I’ve never shared it publicly—but I had the video files for the Calm Camel Training Video Course sitting on a hard drive for over 12 months. Yep, I kept it from you.

If I had stopped procrastinating sooner and finally released it out into the world, anyone, anywhere could’ve started learning how to train camels using the Calm Camel Training method.

So yeah... I feel a bit irresponsible about that.

Why?

Because I knew something important about camels and didn’t share it sooner.

I knew a new way to train and handle camels—gentle, respectful, effective—unlike the more traditional (and often fear-based) methods still floating around.

But I withheld it.

Because of self-doubt.

And—let’s be real—self-doubt is just self-sabotage dressed up in a “reasonable excuse” outfit. I see it all the time with camel owners and handlers. And yep, I lived it too.

You see, I care deeply about camels—not just mine, but all camels.

Camels are my life’s work. Not really by choice, more like a “this is something I have to do” kind of calling. (Luckily, I love what I do.)

So why didn’t I release the course sooner?

Oh, the classic thoughts:

“No one will want to buy an online camel training course.”
“There aren’t that many camel people out there.”
“What if people can’t understand my Aussie accent?” 😂

All lies.

Since launching, over 200 students have joined. And get this—I have more international students than Aussies in the Calm Camel Training Video Course.

So why am I telling you this?

Because maybe you’ve been procrastinating too.

Maybe you’re sitting on camel dreams, ideas, or goals—waiting for the “perfect” moment.

Newsflash: there isn’t one.

Waiting only delays the joy, the clarity, and the connection that comes from actually doing the thing. And I get it—I used to think if I didn’t figure something out myself, it wasn’t worth doing at all. Total self-sabotage.

So in the spirit of giving procrastination the boot…

Let me tell you something important:

If you own a camel (or want to), learning how to train and handle them the right way isn’t optional—it’s essential.

Untrained camels can become unsafe situations fast.

Think:

  • Vet visits (you’ll have one, guaranteed)

  • Friends and family visiting (and expecting safe interactions)

  • Trust issues (camels have built-in trust radars—they know who’s solid and who’s shaky)

A trusting camel is a safe camel. Full stop.

And here’s the thing: trust doesn’t happen once—it’s a relationship that needs to be built and maintained over time.

You can’t rely on a trainer to do it for you (though we’re helpful!)—because you’re the one your camel is around the most. You’re the one they’ll look to for leadership, consistency, and trust.

This is the year to say “yes” to your camel dreams.

Every big leap I’ve taken with camels? It started with one small step.
So take yours.

Start somewhere. Start now.
Baby steps work. Just like with training camels.

And if you’re ready to dive in, I’ve got good news:

I created the Calm Camel Training Video Course for people just like you—camel owners, carers, or curious soon-to-be camel lovers.

Inside, you’ll get:
