...and Why I’m Still Obsessed with Sharing Everything I Know About Camels

Two years ago, this photo was taken.

Nothing fancy. No filters. Just me… totally smitten with one of the most magical animals on the planet.

And honestly? I’m still in love.

How could you not be?

Camels have changed my life in ways I never could’ve imagined—and for the past 10+ years, I’ve been lucky enough to help their people (that’s you!) learn more about their gentle, intelligent, and deeply misunderstood ways.

So... What Is World Camel Day?

World Camel Day is celebrated every year on June 22nd to raise awareness of the value of camels—not just in desert cultures, but across the globe.

The day was first proposed by Dr. Abdul Raziq Kakar, a renowned camel scientist from Pakistan, to spotlight how vital camels are for food security, culture, and sustainable livelihoods—especially in arid regions.

Since then, it’s become an international event, embraced by camel lovers, farmers, researchers, and conservationists who are passionate about the potential of this incredible animal.

And if you're reading this... you're probably one of us!

A Decade of Camel Connection

I still remember the moment, more than 13 years ago, when I'd met camels for the first time said to myself:

"These are the most undervalued animals I've met - I have to share everything I learn—and keep learning—about camels so there are more camels in more people's lives!"

That's the day camels choose me.

A big driving factor was that these amazing animals I've just encountered - the camel - are culled (killed) in Australia because (politically) we have an industry problem.

I didn't grow up wishing to have camels or work with them (formally I was a horse trainer, you can get the story backstory here)

But the big question was:

HOW?

How could I share camel info that’s...
